Telling Family & Friends

First of all, it killed me to wait until Saturday to tell our family. My parents were in New York until Friday so we planned to get together with both sets of parents and have lunch on Saturday. Well....that would have been nice if the weather would have cooperated...my parents were an hour an a half late catching their plane on Friday from New York to Dallas, therefore, once they got to Dallas they missed their flight to Lafayette. Not to mention that the flight on Saturday was completely booked, which put them getting back on Sunday. Oh and did I mention that their luggage went to Lafayette? Poor things...

So anyway, Casey and I decided that we would call my parents Saturday morning to tell them. They called at about 8:30am to let us know that it was a dreary day and they were going to be hanging out in the hotel room all day, so I asked them to put me on speakerphone and I proceeded to let them know that we wouldn't be walking for graduation because we were going to be having a baby in December. It took them (mom, dad & Lynda..Nat was sleeping) about 5 seconds of silence to wrap their thoughts around what I just said and then they were cheering and congratulating us. Needless to say, the sour day that they were expecting in the hotel room was filled with exciting phone calls to family and friends for them.

Casey and I had invited a few friends over that night but they weren't getting there until 4pm, so he and I decided to drive into Lafayette to tell his parents for lunch. We got to Lafayette at 10:45am, we both walked in the house and within 10 minutes, we told them the same thing that we told my parents about not being able to walk for graduation. Mrs. Gail had already thought something was up so she was excited, but not totally caught off guard and Mr. Dale didn't suspect anything. They were both very excited! They generously treated us to Southside Bakery, at the pregnant lady's request, and all of us enjoyed a hamburger and a treat, of course, then headed home.

On the way home, Casey and I called lots of friends and family to also let them know the good news. Casey invited a few friends over about a week ago to watch the UFC fights this Saturday, so it worked out as a perfect opportunity to let them in on our secret, take a look:

Needless to say our friends and family were excited. I got big screams from Grammy and Tiffany, the "you lied to us" from Lena and Justin, we got a "O Thank God" from Mrs. Rita and who can leave out the smile from baby Ty because he knew what was going on....
Check out this awesome cake that Lena made for the UFC fight, what a talented little lady, and it tasted even better:

Then on Sunday, my parents landed at 10:00am in Lafayette and they decided to come visit, not because I begged, but because they wanted to. They got to our house around 3pm with a beautiful flower arrangement in hand and had a nice dinner with us.

Thanks to all of you who have sent your congratulations messages and advice/tips!

The Waiting Game

Hey, it's Rachael....So I always assumed that when you were pregnant, you go to the doctor immediately, WRONG! I called the doctor on Thursday when we found out and the office had already closed for Easter weekend. So I called on Monday, oops, did I leave out that I took another test on Friday night? Anyway, where was I....I called on Monday and the nurse told me that based on my cycle, I was 5 weeks and 4 days pregnant and they typically don't see the patient until they are 8-10 weeks. Therefore, I booked the first appointment I could get, which is May 6th, bright and early at 8am. Also, I need to mention that I took another pregnancy test on Monday afternoon, I know, I am crazy (yeah, you counted right, that makes 4 total). But it is even crazier to make yourself believe that you are pregnant when you don't feel too much different than any other day. I am beginning to notice other subtle signs now that I know about them...

We still have not told anyone (including our parents), we plan on going into Lafayette this Saturday to do so. In the meantime, I am having to tell fibs to all of my girlfriends that are asking about my cycle and how "trying to get pregnant" is going. The theme of the week is "I can't wait until Saturday" so I can let the secret out. All of you that know me well know that I hate keeping secrets! Our next post will show how we decided to tell our family and friends.....

Finding Out

Well, what can I say, it was the week prior to Easter and I was feeling a little different and my cycle was late; not uncomfortable in any way, just a little more tired than usual and a little less energy. On Thursday, prior to going into Lafayette for the weekend, I decided it was probably best to take a pregnancy test just in case I was tempted to drink during the weekend. Kim from my office was going to CVS for lunch so I asked her to pick me up a pregnancy test while she was there, in the meantime, I went home because Casey cooked me lunch. Anxious to get back to work to take the test, I left promptly after lunch and headed back to work. When Kim got back, she told me the news that she couldn't find them, I was like "are you serious?" So I told myself that maybe it was a sign that I was overreacting. Well, after an hour and a half of talking myself into it/out of it, I left work to go to CVS and buy a test. I got back to my office around 2:15pm and did not need to use the bathroom. After guzzling down a glass of water, while reading the test about how your not supposed to drink allot of water as it may dilute the test, I finally could at 2:45pm. Well, I took the test and went back to my office for the LONG 2 minute wait. I glanced over my shoulder to the stick and immediately saw a plus sign, needless to say, my heart started beating REALLY fast and I started shaking. Then I called Kim over and asked her to please make some sense of that plus sign sitting on my desk. She talked me down and told me that I needed to take one more test (I bought a 3 pack) before going home to tell Casey. So again, I guzzled down as much water as I could and took the second test at 2:10pm. Yet again, positive. I immediately ran out the door and headed home. I managed to calm myself down on the 5 minute trip home and was pretty calm when I got there. Casey was packing our belongings into our vehicle for Lafayette. He then told me that he had a surprise and brought out this Easter basket that he bought for me:So I apologized to him that I didn't have a basket for him, because I thought we weren't buying each other baskets, I should have known.... then let him finish packing the car while I set up the evidence. Well, he walked in and I had this on the table:Needless to say, his jaw dropped and he was ecstatic. Enough of me talking, I will let Casey explain in his own words......Thanks Rach, she called me over and she had this weird tone to her voice and she never calls me over like the way she did, so I thought something was up, but I thought it may be something bad because of the way she called me over. When I got to her she said look at that and when I first looked at the paper I thought she was giving me an envelope with money in it for Easter and then after my eyes focused and I saw what the paper said my jaw dropped and I think I was kind of paralyzed and then Rachael told me to give her a hug, so I hugged her so softly not to hurt the baby, LOL!

We had to calm ourselves down after that and spent all Easter weekend with our families holding this HUGE secret in.
